Some Like It Cold: Cold Brew Coffee at Home


Iced Coffee vs. Cold Brew

The difference is elementary. Cold brew is steeped for 12-18 hours at room temperature or below (70°F-34°F). It is less acidic and tastes slightly sweet. Iced coffee is coffee brewed using hot water (190°F-220°F) then poured over ice. This method leads to a more bitter, acidic taste.IMG_0080 (2)


The water to ground coffee bean ratio is the most important aspect of making delicious, flavorful cold brew coffee. For every 10 ounces of water used, 1/4 cup of fresh, coarsely ground, coffee is needed.  For example, in a 32 ounce French Press, 3/4 cup of ground coffee beans is needed.

Cold Brew Coffee Recipe

Prep Time: 5 Minutes                                          Brew Time: 12-18 Hours



  • 1/4 – 3/4 cup coarsely ground coffee of choice
  • 10-30 oz cold, clean water

Remember: You’ll need 1/4 cup coffee grounds for every 10 ounces of water used.


  1. Grind coffee beansIMG_0042
  2. Place in a French Press or glass jar
  3. Fill with water and rest French Press strainer or place lid on top of the container
  4. Wait 12-18 hours
  5. If using a French Press, simply press the plunger down. If using a glass jar, place a filter or sieve into a strainer, and our contents through and into a separate container.

Your cold brew is ready!

Add ice, milk, sweeter, or leave it just the way it is, delicious, flavorful, and slightly sweet!
