Yoga and Mindfulness September and October
WHAT IS MINDFULNESS?
Jon Kabat-Zinn defines mindfulness as paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally. This practice is increasingly being used to reduce stress, improve concentration, manage difficult emotions and physical pain, and reduce unwanted behaviors. Mindfulness has been practiced for thousands of years, either by itself or as part or a larger tradition.
Mindfulness Training is an 8 week course teaching mindfulness as a means of learning greater balance and effective strategies for an improved sense of wellness in one’s own life.
Over the past three decades extensive research has now been done looking at the effectiveness of Mindfulness on Stress Reduction. Research shows that most people who complete this type of course find:
- An increased ability to relax
- Improved self-esteem
- Greater energy and enthusiasm for life
- Improved ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations
- Reductions in pain levels and/or an enhanced ability to cope with pain that may not go away
This course is designed for anyone wishing to gain greater levels of health or general well-being. People choose to participate in this course for many reasons, such as:
- Sleep problems
- Anxiety or depression
- GI problems
- High blood pressure or heart disease
- Chronic Illness or pain
- Simply to improve well-being
The class is a complement, not a substitute, for regular medical care.
I believe strongly in making this class available to anyone who believes that Mindfulness Training might be helpful in their life and is willing to commit themselves to do the work. Therefore, I am offering this class on a Sliding Scale, and the generosity of those who are able and choose to pay more directly supports those who are not.

I appreciate the directed practice because I was not very familiar with meditation and certainly not this variety. I believe our class quickly came together as a group and we were comfortable sharing with others. Each week I came away with something to new to try, and having the class over 8 weeks gave time to process and practice each one. Caitlin has such a calm presence and is very reassuring that there is no wrong way to do something and even when life throws us a curveball, whatever you managed to do that week can be helpful. I recommend this class if your life is great or if you are struggling. Anyone with an interest can benefit.
I recommended this course for everyone!
Caitlin’s MBSR class has been so beneficial to my daily life. Everyone deals with stress in some form or another, and this class helped me gain a positive perspective on stress and how I can respond to it. After 8 weeks of this class, I have a greater sense of control over my stress and how my mind and body react in each moment. I have the tools to make myself and those around me healthy, which is improving my life every day.
I love the MBSR curriculum and how it encouraged me to delve into practices to deepen my knowledge, mindful habits, and the effects of meditation in my life. Caitlin is very approachable and made meditation feel accessible from any level of experience!
The MBSR class provides a great introduction to a wide variety of meditation techniques. Caitlin was a skilled and warm guide throughout the course. I especially appreciated all of the outside resources she provided us to continue learning on our own outside of class. I would recommend this class to anyone exploring effective ways to reduce anxiety and stress, communicate more mindfully, and deal with anger and attachments to unhealthy behaviors.
